Melatonin 150 caps - Cien por Cien Natural
Melatonin is a food supplement that contains 1 mg of melatonin in each orodispersible tablet, a simple, convenient, and effective way to consume this ingredient.
A good night's sleep is one where the duration of sleep was sufficient to provide a homeostatic restoration process for physical and mental health. In other words, having a good night's sleep helps maintain all aspects of the body in one way or another: energy and molecular balance, as well as intellectual function, alertness and disposition, metabolic, endocrine, and immune regulation, etc.
Sleep cycles
When you sleep, you go through a two-phase sleep cycle: rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM sleep. This last sleep phase, in turn, consists of three stages:
- • Stage 1: transition between wakefulness and sleep.
- • Stage 2: When you reach stage 2, you are asleep.
- • Stage 3: deep sleep or slow-wave sleep, due to a specific pattern that appears in brain activity measurements.
The complete cycle starts over every 80 to 100 minutes, and 4 to 6 cycles are normally completed per night.
Melatonin: the sleep hormone
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body commonly known as the sleep hormone, because it is responsible for regulating day and night cycles or sleep-wake cycles (stage 1 of non-REM sleep).
Its scientific name is N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine and it is synthesized from an essential amino acid, tryptophan, through serotonin.
Factors that modulate endogenous melatonin production
- Endogenous: both stress and age appear to be elements that can lead to a reduction in melatonin production.
- Environmental: formed mainly by the photoperiod (solar cycle seasons), the seasons of the year, and ambient temperature.
The physiological function of melatonin, produced by the pineal gland, is to inform the retina about daily patterns of light and darkness.
HIGHLIGHTS

- • Reducing the time taken to fall asleep. The beneficial effect is obtained with an intake of 1 mg of melatonin shortly before bedtime.
