When used in combination with a healthy diet, it can prevent inflammation and irritation in the gastrointestinal system, while repairing the stomach and intestinal lining. The ingredients in GastroMend-HP improve gastrointestinal health through antimicrobial and mucosal support properties. Gastromend from Designs for Health contains:

• Mastic gum, a resinous substance from a tree originally native to the island of Chios, Greece, which has a long history of use in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions, where it has been chewed as gum to treat stomach aches for centuries.
• Methylmethionine sulfonium, a derivative of methionine found in raw cabbage, often referred to as "vitamin U" due to its history of treating peptic ulcers. The use of raw cabbage juice has been studied extensively, particularly in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union, for healing damaged and irritated intestinal mucosa.
• Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL), a source of glabridin, which has natural antioxidant properties and maintains balanced levels of bacteria, aids in digestion, may alleviate nausea, and treats ulcers and gastritis.
• Zinc-carnosine (PepZin-GI) was added to this formula due to recent emerging findings showing its impressive effect against H. pylori, and its mucosal protective and anti-ulcer properties, including the ability to protect the intestinal lining against damage caused by indomethacin and other strong anti-inflammatory drugs, which are frequently associated with damage to the intestinal mucosa.
