Akkerbiota 30caps - NPro
The Akkerbiota from NPRO contains Akkermansia MucT™, 3 probiotic strains, and ingredients with a prebiotic effect. It offers the only Akkermansia muciniphila authorized in Europe to be incorporated into supplements, as it is supported by studies backing its use. Akkermansia muciniphila supports the balance of the intestinal mucosa and microbiota.
Provides:
- 30 billion FTU of Akkermansia MucT™ (pasteurized and more efficient than the live bacteria)
- 15 billion CFU of 3 probiotic strains (B. lactis B420™, L. plantarum CCFM1143 and L. rhamnosus GG)
- Sunfiber®
- Dry rhubarb extract
NPRO's Akkerbiota contains 30 billion FTUs * of Akkermansia MucT™, 3 probiotic strains with a total of 15 billion CFUs** (B. lactis B420™, L. plantarum CCFM1143 and L. rhamnosus GG), and ingredients with a prebiotic effect – Sunfiber® (partially hydrolyzed guar gum) and dry rhubarb extract. Akkermansia muciniphila contributes to the balance of the intestinal mucosa and microbiota.
NPRO selected Akkermansia MucT™, which is pasteurized, to be part of the Akkerbiota formula, both because it is a next-generation post-biotic with studies supporting its use, and because it is the only one authorized in Europe to be incorporated into supplements.
Benefits of Akkermansia muciniphila, what science tells us
It is part of the muconutritive microbiota, a group of intestinal bacteria, among which A. muciniphila stands out – it lives in the mucus layer that lines the intestine and has a role that is increasingly recognized in digestive and metabolic health.
Akkermansia muciniphila MucT™ is one of the most studied bacteria in the intestinal microbiota. In particular:
- Protects the intestinal barrier, since it produces specific proteins, such as Amuc_1100, which reinforce the intestinal wall. As such, it makes it more resistant and less permeable. On the other hand, it supports the immune system, helping to regulate the immune response, stimulating the production of anti-inflammatory substances, and favoring a more balanced intestine. Furthermore, the Amuc_1100 from pasteurized Akkermansia MucT™ provides added benefits compared to the live form.
- Improves metabolism, by being associated with better insulin sensitivity, reduction in body fat, and more favorable metabolic markers in people with obesity or type 2 diabetes. This is partly due to the production of short-chain fatty acids and the influence on intestinal hormones such as GLP-1.
- Supports a healthy microbiome, as Akkermansia can use compounds present in foods rich in polyphenols to grow competitively in the intestine. Thus, it contributes to a more balanced and resistant microbial community.
- Additionally, a recent study published in the journal Nature , demonstrates that it participates in the communication between the intestine, the immune system, and even the metabolism through the molecules it produces.
However, only the presence of A. muciniphila in a balanced amount provides benefits to intestinal health and contributes to the corresponding mucosa becoming more resistant and functional. Therefore, if it is in deficit or in excess, it is not favorable. Notably, low levels of this bacterium have been associated with metabolic alterations, inflammatory processes, increased intestinal permeability, and digestive alterations, among others.
What can compromise the balance of the Akkermansia muciniphila population?
As with everything regarding the microbiota, context matters. Therefore, both exposure to prolonged stress situations and certain diseases can alter the intestinal mucosa layer and have been associated with changes in the abundance of this bacterium. The same happens with diets poor in foods rich in polyphenols (such as red fruits, pomegranate, green tea, and dark chocolate), or scarce in omega 3. Furthermore, when the diet is poor in fermentable fibers (such as garlic, onion, asparagus, etc.), or the intestine is in imbalance, even Akkermansia can have less favorable behavior.
