Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM 90cap - Now Foods

One of the ingredients in this Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM formula, glucosamine, is an amino sugar composed of glucose and glutamine. It is a precursor and stimulant for the synthesis of a group of proteins that make up what is known as the "ground substance" of cartilage. Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and proteoglycans (PGs) have an important characteristic: their negative charge, which causes them to retain sodium, which, in turn, leads to water retention.
By attracting water, they form a type of gel in the extracellular matrix, forming a “pillow” inside the joint, providing lubrication and protection against shock.

Since glucosamine is the raw material for the production of these proteoglycans, it is important that it exists in sufficient quantities in the body. It is an easily absorbed and rapidly assimilated molecule. In the physiological environment, 75% of glucosamine is non-ionized and, therefore, can easily cross membranes.
As we age, joint degeneration is quite common and osteoarthritis ends up affecting a large part of the older population, but there are other factors independent of age that can lead to greater joint wear, such as an intense sports career, for example.

Several studies address the effectiveness of glucosamine in various types of osteoarthritis. Typically, it's combined with chondroitin (another important joint component). However, a 2012 study conducted an interesting study. The 82 participants with knee pain due to osteoarthritis who completed the study were divided into two groups: Group A received 500 mg of glucosamine sulfate per day, and Group B also received the usual analgesics used for these conditions: ibuprofen and piroxicam. After 12 weeks, as is logical, Group B experienced greater pain relief than Group A. However, significant differences were also found in Group A, suggesting some effect of glucosamine alone. Thus, long-term glucosamine supplementation can improve the condition of these patients and even reduce the need for medication, improving their quality of life and possibly even slowing the rate of joint degeneration.

This Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM formula provides not only Glucosamine and Chondroitin but also MSM.
Methylsulfonylmethane is an organic form of sulfur, naturally occurring in humans, and has been a synergistic ingredient in formulas aimed at pain relief or maintenance of the musculoskeletal system, especially joints. However, due to its antioxidant properties, MSM may be useful in muscle recovery after intense training or physical events, as indicated by a 2012 study that revealed a decrease in muscle damage in the group receiving MSM supplementation, which is why it is also sought after by some athletes.
