Primary metabolites correspond to the plant's nutritional content, providing large amounts of protein, fiber, minerals (calcium, iron, copper, and zinc, among others), vitamins B1, B2, and B3, and 20 free fatty amino acids. Secondary metabolites include sterols and are rich in unique alkaloids (glucosinolates) called macaenes and macamides.
