Saccharomyces Boulardii - A powerful and unique yeast probiotic. Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic, transient yeast that has long been used to support normal intestinal transit time. It is an acid-resistant, temperature-tolerant microorganism that is not affected by antibacterial agents. S. boulardii is genetically and functionally distinct from brewer's yeast (S. cerevisiae) and different from pathogenic Candida species. S. boulardii has the following characteristics: Increases intestinal enzyme activities, such as disaccharidases, α-glucosidases, alkaline phosphatases, and aminopeptidases. Increases intestinal absorption of D-glucose coupled with sodium, which can increase water and electrolyte absorption during occasional diarrhea. † Increases fecal concentrations of short-chain fatty acids that nourish colonic mucosal cells. It is an immune modulator, increasing intestinal IgA secretion and increasing enterocyte crypt immunoglobulin receptors. † Supports a healthy inflammatory response where inflammation is associated with occasional digestive discomfort. Research has found that S. boulardii supports healthy intestinal function in a variety of clinical settings, supporting healthy intestinal transit time. Klaire uses only lactose-free and gluten-free material. This hypoallergenic formula is available in vegetarian capsules.
