Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic transient yeast long used to support normal intestinal transit time. It is an acid-resistant, temperature-tolerant microorganism that is unaffected by antibacterial agents.S. boulardii is genetically and functionally distinct from brewer's yeast (S. cerevisiae) and different from pathogenic Candida species.

S. boulardiihas the following characteristics:

Increases the activities of intestinal enzymes such as disaccharidases, α-glucosidases, alkaline phosphatases and aminopeptidases.

Increases intestinal absorption of D-glucose along with sodium, which may increase water and electrolyte absorption during occasional diarrhea.†

Increases stool concentrations of short-chain fatty acids that nourish colon mucosal cells.

It is an immunity modulator by increasing intestinal IgA secretion and increasing immunoglobulin receptors in enterocyte crypts. †

Supports a healthy inflammatory response, where inflammation is associated with occasional digestive discomfort. Research has found that S. boulardii supports healthy gut function in a variety of clinical settings, supporting healthy intestinal transit time.
