Description

L-Citrulline 100g - Allergy Research

There is interest in using L-citrulline for a number of other purposes, but there is not enough reliable information to say whether this might be helpful.

L-citrulline, like L-arginine and L-ornithine, is involved in the metabolism of ammonia residues in the urea cycle and in vasodilation pathways. Carbamoyl phosphate is converted to citrulline in the ornithine carbamoyltransferase reaction, and when endogenous supplies of ornithine carbamoyltransferase are insufficient, supplemental L-citrulline may be helpful.

Free form amino acid, high purity, well tolerated.

L-citrulline is an amino acid found in watermelon. It is also produced in the body. The body converts L-citrulline into another amino acid called L-arginine.

The name citrulline comes from Citrullus vulgaris, the Latin term for watermelon. Unlike some amino acids, L-citrulline isn't used to make protein, but it can help increase other chemicals the body needs to make protein. It may also help improve blood flow and lower blood pressure.

People use L-citrulline for athletic performance, sickle cell disease, erectile dysfunction (ED), high blood pressure in the lungs, heart disease, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support most of these uses.

Effectiveness Header:

Natural Medicines classifies effectiveness based on scientific evidence according to the following scale: Effective, Likely Effective, Possibly Effective, Possibly Ineffective, Probably Ineffective, Ineffective, and Insufficient Evidence to Evaluate . -> Possibly Effective

Athletic performance: Taking L-citrulline orally may help improve some types of exercise performance, such as weightlifting. But its effects on aerobic exercise, such as running, are unclear. There is interest in using L-citrulline for a variety of other purposes, but there isn't enough reliable information to say whether it might be helpful.
