L-Lysine Powder 454g - Agora Alimentos

Amino acid involved in the synthesis of collagen (structural protein of various tissues) and constituent of muscle.
Amino acid precursor of Carnitine that participates in fat metabolism.
Pharmaceutical Grade L-lysine.

L-Lysine is an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot produce it naturally and must be ingested. It is found naturally, for example, in milk, soy, meat, lentils and spinach.

In 1950, the behavior of the herpes virus in response to certain foods was studied, focusing on their amino acid content. It was observed, for the first time, that unlike other amino acids such as arginine, the virus was inhibited in the presence of lysine, because lysine competes with arginine, the latter being essential for the virus's development. Thus, an association began to be established between this amino acid and normal immune function, and its absence has been shown, in more recent studies, also in animals, to compromise immune defenses.
Around 1990, the consumption of L-Lysine began to be associated with an improvement in the absorption of Calcium and a reduction in its excretion through urine.

Because calcium is a major constituent of bone, it may be important for maintaining bone density and, consequently, preventing osteoporosis. Some authors argue that L-lysine consumption may be important for maintaining bone density, not only because of this potential synergy with calcium but also because of its apparent impact on the activity of osteoblasts (bone-producing cells), as mentioned in an Italian study.

This study also highlights L-lysine's potential for increasing collagen synthesis, which is a component of supporting organs such as skin, bones, tendons, and cartilage. Lysine not only provides structure, firmness, and elasticity to the skin, but also contributes to the integrity of muscles, ligaments, and tendons, given the presence of collagen fibers in all these tissues.

Lysine is a precursor to carnitine, a compound involved in the metabolism of fats for energy. This means its normal production is important for maintaining energy levels and also for cardiovascular health.

Lysine constitutes the majority of muscle and is anti-catabolic, meaning it reduces the percentage and speed at which protein breakdown occurs. Therefore, it is used by athletes and sportspeople to help maintain muscle mass and aid post-workout recovery.

Therefore, NOW® L-Lysine Powder is a dietary supplement that participates in collagen synthesis, helps fight herpes and helps maintain bone and muscle mass.
