Vitamin A 10,000IU 100sft - Now
For eye health and skin problems.
Vitamin A 10,000 IU by Now is a food supplement that provides Vitamin A, derived from retinyl palmitate, fish liver oil from cod, pollock, and haddock, and has proven beneficial for eye health and skin problems (e.g., acne, psoriasis).
It influences the growth and repair process of the cells that make up vision, mucous membranes, skin, tooth enamel, and scalp. At the ocular level, it protects the cornea (the part of the eye that transmits and focuses light entering the eye) and acts in the production of visual purple (rhodopsin), which is necessary for night vision. Adequate levels of vitamin A in the body prevent the onset of diseases such as corneal ulcerations, eyelid swelling, "dry eye" (decreased tear production), age-related macular degeneration, and, in extreme cases, blindness.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that, first and foremost, has antioxidant action, thus protecting the body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Equally important is its role in the synthesis of glycoproteins (proteins in the protective mucus of mucous membranes) in controlling cell differentiation, influencing the growth and repair process of the cells that make up vision, mucous membranes, skin, tooth enamel, and scalp, as well as in gene expression.
It strengthens the immune system, as maintaining the functions and integrity of the skin cells and the mucous membranes that line the respiratory, digestive, and urinary tracts allows them to act as a barrier, serving as a body defense mechanism against infections. Furthermore, vitamin A also acts in the development and differentiation of white blood cells (leukocytes), which play the most relevant role in the immune system.
Vitamin A also combats common signs of skin aging, maintaining its elasticity, flexibility, and firmness. It penetrates the skin and normalizes the keratinization process, which promotes soft and smooth skin, reduces the thickening of the epidermis, and prevents the appearance of diseases, e.g., psoriasis. It also reduces scalp flaking.
Supplementation with vitamin A has beneficial effects on iron-deficiency anemia as it facilitates the mobilization of iron from storage sites to developing red blood cells, promoting the incorporation of iron into hemoglobin (a protein present in red blood cells that is responsible for transporting oxygen to the body's cells).
