Omega-3 VEGAN (100 ml) is a unique combination of high-dosage plant-based algae oil and organic extra virgin olive oil from controlled organic farming (antioxidant). A daily dose (5 ml / 1 teaspoon) provides 2,000 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids.
Algae oil is very rich in DHA and also contains EPA. It is, therefore, an ideal source of Omega-3 for all those who wish to exclude all animal products from their diet.
NORSAN algae oil
Microalgae, with their unique photosynthesis, are the foundation of our existence. They contain vital nutrients, including Omega-3 fatty acids, which reach our diet indirectly through the consumption of fish and seafood. Algae oil is an excellent alternative to consuming fish, allowing us to go directly to the source.
NORSAN Omega-3 VEGAN is a 100% plant-based algae oil. The oil is extracted from marine microalgae *Schizochytrium sp.*. This is a microscopic alga that feeds exclusively on organic and plant substances, such as dead leaves. The *Schizochytrium sp.* microalgae are naturally rich in marine Omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA and EPA, making them ideal for the production of a vegan Omega-3 oil. Thanks to their high natural content of Omega-3, our algae oil offers a high dose without the need for chemical treatments to increase concentration.
The manufacturing process is sustainable and environmentally friendly. The marine microalgae we use to produce Omega-3 VEGAN do not come from the sea. They are cultivated in large tanks containing artificial seawater. This saves resources and preserves the food base for fish. In this way, we do not interfere with the natural marine ecosystem, and fish and krill stocks are spared.
Why linseed oil is not enough
EPA and DHA are present in marine sources, such as fish, algae, and krill. Most plant-based oils rich in Omega-3, such as linseed and chia oil, only contain the plant-based Omega-3 fatty acid ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) and not EPA and DHA. Among plant-based oils, linseed oil, for example, contains particularly high levels of ALA. Walnuts and chia seeds also contain ALA. It is important to know that ALA can only be converted into EPA and DHA to a limited extent. The conversion factor is only 0.5-10% and depends heavily on weight, metabolism, and other factors. Scientific studies largely agree that ALA intake alone cannot correct an EPA and DHA deficiency.
Organic olive oil as an antioxidant
Polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids are particularly "sensitive" and can be easily destroyed. Therefore, they must be "protected" not only before consumption but also in the body after they are ingested. That is why our Omega-3 VEGAN contains 25% organic extra virgin olive oil that acts as a powerful natural antioxidant. Our olive oil was specially selected for its potent antioxidant components.
For Omega-3 VEGAN, just like for our other Omega-3 products, we use organic extra virgin olive oil with a high content of polyphenols, known for their antioxidant properties. It is the polyphenol content of the olive oil that protects the Omega-3 fatty acids from oxidation. A unique characteristic of an olive oil rich in polyphenols is that it causes a slight tingling sensation in the throat when swallowed.
