L-Glutamine 1000mg 120vcap - Agora Alimentos

L-Glutamine, Amino acid in free form.
Nitrogen transport and balance in the body.
Development of muscle, immune and gastrointestinal tract cells.

Glutamine is considered a non-essential amino acid because it is produced by the body, however in certain situations the body may need a greater quantity than that which is produced, which is why the expression “a conditionally essential amino acid” is used.

It is the most abundant free amino acid in muscle tissue and has an anabolic function, stimulating protein synthesis and contributing to muscle growth. Therefore, it is highly sought after by athletes and those who engage in intense physical exercise, not only to maintain lean mass but also for faster post-workout muscle recovery. A 2015 study evaluated quadriceps muscle pain and strength after eccentric knee exercise, with oral glutamine supplementation, and revealed a positive impact.

Another study suggests that glutamine supplementation may improve athletes' endurance by decreasing blood ammonia concentration.

Regarding the immune system, glutamine supplementation has been a topic addressed in several studies. It has been identified as an energy source for lymphocytes and a mediator of their phagocytic activity, in addition to maintaining blood glutathione levels, which provide antioxidant protection. Some studies have addressed its effect in post-surgical situations and reveal lymphocyte proliferation as well as a possible increased resistance to hospital-acquired infections.

Recently, glutamine has been extensively explored in the digestive system, especially in repairing the intestinal mucosa, and it is suggested that it reduces intestinal permeability and associated complications. In patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, high concentrations of interleukin-13 are observed, and it is this cytokine that is reduced by glutamine supplementation, demonstrating improvements in intestinal barrier function.

The impact of glutamine supplementation on the nervous system has also been the subject of growing scientific interest. It's important to remember that glutamine is converted, in the brain, into glutamic acid, which then produces GABA.

GABA is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in modulating neuronal excitability, so glutamine deficiencies can result in nervous disorders. Furthermore, the fact that this amino acid helps eliminate nitrogen and ammonia could be useful in maintaining brain tissue, as these are toxic substances. The effectiveness of glutamine supplementation in relieving stress, anxiety, and other nervous disorders continues to be studied.
