Gymnema Sylvestre is a plant native to India and is considered one of the most powerful anti-diabetic herbs. Evidence suggests that Gymnema may reduce cravings for sweets, reduce sugar absorption during digestion, and promote normal blood sugar levels. The main compounds present in this plant, responsible for its beneficial effects on diabetes, are gymnemic acids (GS4 PLUS®). Five of the 22 diabetic patients were able to discontinue their conventional medication and maintain their blood glucose homeostasis with GS4® alone. These data suggest that beta cells can be regenerated/repaired in type 2 diabetic patients with GS4® supplementation, a notion reinforced by the appearance of higher serum insulin levels in patients after supplementation.
