NOW CurcuFRESH™ is a dietary supplement made from fresh turmeric instead of dried turmeric root that is highly processed with solvents and dispersants, as are the turmeric extracts found on the market.
Its bioavailability is over 40 times superior. It does not undergo glucuronidation (a method used for excretion of substances) – long shelf life, allowing you to obtain all the benefits of turmeric.
With anti-inflammatory activity identical to corticosteroids, curcuminoids have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory activity, partly due to their ability to inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins and their inhibitory action on the enzyme nitric oxide synthase, which is involved in the inflammatory process. In fact, when compared to corticosteroids, turmeric extract has anti-inflammatory activity identical to these in acute inflammation and is approximately 50% as potent as corticosteroids in chronic inflammation. Therefore, it is widely used as an analgesic, relieving joint pain, especially in cases of rheumatoid arthritis, and reducing joint stiffness. This anti-inflammatory action also makes turmeric useful in several inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome.
In a clinical study, a single dose of CurcuFRESH™ was administered in amounts of 100, 250, and 1000 mg (containing 4.2, 10.5, and 42 mg of curcumin, respectively) to compare the bioavailability of this curcumin with another curcuminoid extract with a 95% curcumin concentration (ranging from 4.2 to 950 mg). At all dose levels, administration of CurcuFRESH™ resulted in significantly higher plasma curcumin concentrations than administration with crystallized and/or dispersed curcuminoid extracts demonstrated. The curve from the study shows that the bioavailability of 1000 mg of CurcuFRESH™ (42 mg of curcumin) was 46-fold greater than that of 950 mg of crystallized curcuminoids. Even more relevant is the fact that the curcumin resulting from CurcuFRESH™ administration was detected in human plasma in an unmetabolized, unconjugated, and non-glucuronidated form. This is important because after oral administration, curcumin undergoes extensive glucuronidation (a method used for excretion of substances) in the intestinal wall and liver, meaning it is rapidly eliminated from the body, preventing its beneficial properties from being fully utilized.
Curcuminoids also have cholagogue effects (stimulating bile production and its flow in the intestine). Scientific studies have confirmed turmeric's effective action as a detoxifier and liver stimulant. This action may also explain its hypocholesterolemic activity, since bile synthesis requires cholesterol consumption. Curcuminoids also increase bile flow to the intestines, which causes the breakdown of dietary fats.
