N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is the stabilized form of the essential amino acid L-cysteine.
In many stages of life – for example, in old age, during growth, or during periods of physical activity – the body has an increased need for amino acids.

NAC is rapidly absorbed in the intestine and almost completely assimilated, being subsequently converted back into L-cysteine.
This amino acid is an important source of sulfur for our body.

L-cysteine is a component of many proteins, as well as the peptide glutathione, which, in turn, is part of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase, responsible for catalyzing the degradation of oxidative hydrogen peroxide.
