Bearberry has a diuretic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory action on the urinary tract, due to the presence of flavonoid glycosides and Arbutin.
Arbutin, a compound that corresponds to 10 percent of the plant's dry weight, is absorbed in large quantities by the body and, when excreted by the kidneys in the form of Hydroquinone, acts as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory throughout the Urinary Tract.
During its excretion, arbutin exerts an antiseptic effect on the urinary mucosa. This is why bearberry leaves are widely used to treat inflammatory conditions of the urinary tract, such as urethritis, prostatitis, pyelonephritis, and cystitis. Similar to other clinical situations, the microorganisms that cause urinary tract infections often become resistant to common antibiotics and antiseptics, so bearberry may be a valid alternative in the treatment of urinary infections because it shrinks and contracts the upper layers of the mucous membranes, thus reducing secretions, relieving irritation, and improving tissue firmness.
The extract from this plant gives urine a greenish color, a sign that shouldn't alarm those taking this supplement, as it's indicative of its beneficial effects on the urinary tract. Bearberry leaves are rich in arbutoside, which acts on colibacilli, the main microorganisms responsible for urinary tract infections. Tannins, also present in the leaves of this plant, have anti-inflammatory properties and stabilize arbutoside, allowing the dried leaf powder to be perfectly preserved.
Bearberry is a diuretic, which means it increases urine volume, making it essential in cases of urinary tract infections and in preventing recurrences.
