Lamberts® Quercetin is extracted from a natural plant source, and each tablet provides a full 500 mg of pure quercetin. Some inexpensive quercetin products, particularly those imported from the US, may contain much less quercetin than stated on the label because the weight given refers to the plant extract, not the quercetin content.
This plant was discovered by J. Rigaud in 1854. It is a natural, water-soluble pigment found in plant foods. It is the most abundant and most common flavonoid in the human diet, notable for its high antioxidant activity.
Many plants, whether considered medicinal or not, owe much of their benefits to their high levels of quercetin. For example, some types of onion (such as red onions) contain so much quercetin that the compound represents 10% of their dry weight.
Experimental studies have shown it to have numerous effects on the body, including inhibiting both the production and release of histamine, and it is best known for its antioxidant action. Recent studies demonstrate its contribution to cardiovascular well-being.
It's found in many fruits. In the UK, apples (along with onions) also provide the highest dietary intake. Each 500 mg tablet provides significantly more quercetin than 1 kg of apples.
