Corn , also known as coarse corn and maize corn ( Zea mays L.) and belongs to the Poaceae (Grass) family.

It is an annual plant native to the Andes and Central America and is cultivated almost worldwide. The parts used are the styles and stigmas (corn silks) , seed oil, and the corresponding unsaponifiables. Corn has separate male and female flowers. The female flowers are grouped into an ear, from which a style emerges. The styles together form the corn silk. The fruit is the corn kernel.
