Silymarin is the active compound found in the fruit of the Silybum Marianum plant, popularly known as Thistle Marianum, which grows naturally throughout the Mediterranean. This plant was introduced to the UK by phytotherapists in the 16th century.

Milk-Thistle is considered one of the most widely studied herbs today, with more than 300 scientific studies conducted on its chemistry and application. To ensure proper dosage, we use a standardized extract of mature seeds that contains 200mg of silymarin per tablet.

Silymarin is composed of three isomers called silybin, silydianin, and silychristin, all classified as flavonolignans, with silybin being the most important component. It takes 8.5 grams of plant seeds to obtain 286 mg of milk thistle extract, the amount present in each of our pills (tablets or slabs).
