DHA Kids Chewable 60cap - Now food
NOW® DHA Kids Chewable is a dietary supplement for children based on EPA and DHA fatty acids from tuna. It contains BioPure DHA™, a rich natural source of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. While typical fish oils generally contain higher levels of EPA than DHA, BioPure DHA™ is unique in that it contains five times more DHA than EPA. High levels of DHA are especially important for growing infants and children, as it promotes brain development and cognitive function. Lower levels of EPA are particularly important for infants under 6 months of age, as EPA can suppress arachidonic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid essential for vascular development in infants.

DHA is the main structural component of the cell membranes of brain and eye cells. 60% of the membrane structure of brain cells, or neurons, is composed of DHA. It is also present in synaptic connections, which are the interconnections responsible for conducting electrical nerve signals between different neurons. Similarly, the cell membranes of the retina are composed primarily of DHA, whose function is to transmit light signals captured by the eye to the brain, contributing to good vision. Thus, DHA is an essential component for brain structure, development, and function, as well as eye health.
DHA is also transported from the mother to the fetus for use in its brain and retinal development.
It helps in the development of the placenta and is necessary for the development of the uterus and mammary glands during pregnancy.
EPA has anti-inflammatory action by acting on the production of anti-inflammatory substances, called prostaglandins.
It can have benefits for cardiovascular health, by promoting an increase in HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol) and a decrease in triglycerides and blood pressure, and for circulation, preventing the formation of blood clots that can cause thrombosis and stroke.
EPA and DHA fatty acids act synergistically, beneficially influencing the lipid profile, reducing platelet aggregation and the risk of thrombus formation, reducing arterial hypertension and having a marked anti-inflammatory effect.
